Streszczenie wykładu:
MicroRNAs (miRNA) are a class of small non-coding RNAs (17-14 nucleotides). Because of their function as regulators of gene expression, they play a critical role in various pathological processes. Their remarkable stability makes them potential biomarkers in body fluids including blood. The analysis of the whole set of miRNAs also referred to as “miRNome” , allows the determination of disease specific miRNA signatures in the blood of patients. We identified unique expression profiles for various diseases including tumors like brain and lung cancer as well as a variety of non-tumor diseases. Our data show that categorized miRNAs are among the most promising blood based biomarkers that allow discriminating not only between patients and healthy controls but also between different diseases.
